On Saturday, November 16 sisters Vasilisa and Karoline Cherenkov placed 1st and 2nd in the Intermediate Division of the Wichita Metropolitan Music Teachers Concerto Competition.
The event was held at Wichita State University in Wichita, Kansas. The girls played in a first-round where three finalists were selected.
During the finals, they performed again where the judges selected the winners. Karoline played Beethoven’s Piano Concerto in C Major, Op. 15 and Vasilisa played Haydn’s Piano Concerto in D Major.
Both girls study with Dr. Sheila Litke at Tabor College.
“Playing concertos requires dedication and many daily hours of practice,” Litke said. “This was the first concerto for both them, so to see them both work so hard to learn such long and difficult pieces was very exciting.”
Karoline and Vasilisa are the daughters of Dr. Michael and Nina Cherenkov, Ukrainian missionaries with Missions Eurasia. Dr. Michael Cherenkov is a Visiting Professor at Tabor College.
