A Ministry Update from the Cherenkov Family

Warm Ukrainian greetings from the small Mennonite town of Hillsboro, Kansas!

As we continue to serve the people of Eurasia, we also rejoice over the opportunity to make new partnerships and connections with friends in the US, get better acquainted with American culture, and participate in the global Christian community.

When our family moved to Hillsboro from Ukraine six months ago, the local people would often say, “This is a Ukrainian missionary family. They work in Eurasia.” Now we hear them say more often, “Your work is right here. We love to listen to your music and hear your stories. We need you. We are so glad that you are part of our community.” Many people are now interested in going on mission trips with us or supporting our ministry work on the ground in Eurasia. They feel a connection to us and our ministry.

These past months, I have been busy leading some seminars, as well as presenting the ministry of Mission Eurasia to local churches and mission boards in the US. Two weeks ago, I was invited to give a talk at Tabor College in which I shared about my family’s story of faith and persecution during the years of the Soviet regime, and how the fall of the Soviet Union resulted in a fruitful mission field in Ukraine and throughout Eurasia. It is this rich mission field where Mission Eurasia is strategically training and equipping the Next Generation of young believers to evangelize and transform their nations with the gospel message. A local journalist wrote about my presentation at Tabor College, which you can read here.

Last two weeks I was traveling back to Ukraine to meet with the Mission Eurasia Field Ministries team to strategically plan for the future of our ministry initiatives, pray, fellowship, and dream together about how God will continue to use Mission Eurasia to transform the former Soviet Union for Christ and His Kingdom.

Please continue to pray for me and my family as we serve God’s Kingdom and the ministry of Mission Eurasia in Hillsboro and work to cultivate new partnerships and connections with friends and supporters in the US. I have included a few specific prayer requests below. Thank you for keeping our family in your prayers!
  • Please pray for our family as we continue to learn English and acclimate to the new culture in the US.

  • Pray for several upcoming School Without Walls and Next Generation Professional Leaders Initiative events, which I am overseeing from the US.

  • Pray for my upcoming presentations to churches and mission boards, and that God would inspire more churches to get involved in the ministry of Mission Eurasia.

  • Please pray for strength and protection for Nina and our daughters—Michelle, Vasilisa, Caroline, and Sara Stefani—during my frequent trips.

  • Pray that God would continue to inspire generous partners and friends to support our ministry work!
We would also love to visit your church and share with your congregation or mission board the stories of how God is at work in Eurasia, changing lives with the gospel message proclaimed by our young leaders. Our daughters would be glad to perform musically for your church—they have become our best ambassadors! They love to joyfully tell others about the countries of Eurasia, play their instruments, and sing together.

We thank God for your friendship and for the opportunity to be part of something bigger together—God’s mission in Eurasia, the United States, and the entire world. There is no greater joy than to serve God and His mission.  And there is no greater privilege than to serve Him with you.

Thank you for your faithful prayers and support!
